Kamas Valley - Fall 2006

It's all about the fiber!

Most people's alpaca-life starts with when they first saw or purchased their alpacas. The beginning for Sunrise Ranch was with the fiber.

While in college, Deb took a hand-spinning and natural dyeing class. It was a good match. She'd already been knitting and crocheting for several years, but spinning was a wonderful initiation to what would become a whole new way of life! Our 'alpaca' beginnings were in 1998 with the purchase of a single pregnant female. Although boarding during the first several years, we still were learning a lot about herd health, feeding, breeding, and fleeces. We helped out at other ranches whenever possible, becoming pretty handy at shearing time and for other projects.

In 2002, we moved ourselves and our growing herd up to the high-mountain valley of Kamas, UT and a 5-acre property where the alpacas and the land itself could finally begin to teach us in earnest.

We have a little bit of everything where it concerns alpacas: mature foundation females bred to award-winning studs, junior herdsires, geldings, and yearlings. For the fiber fanatics, we have ribbon-winning fleeces, roving ready-to-spin, as well as yarns spun locally from our own herd. Please call or write - we'd love to talk alpaca with you!
